Illustration for 'to give away'

Mámt means ‘to give away‘.

Mámt sounds like MAMMT. The vowel is as in English ‘bad‘, ‘mad‘.

-ing form

Mámt has a special –ing (‘progressive’) form, to mark an ongoing action like this: hemámtgiving away.

Elders make this type of –ing form by prefixing he-. This is the most common pattern for words that start with m (or l, w, y).
