The 'for someone' Ending

You have now seen a number of examples where the addition of an ending -elhts into the word indicates that the action is done for someone's benefit. For example:

(1) (a) kwúkw (b) kwúkwelhtset

cook (it) cook for (him/her)

(c) q'óyt (d) q'óylhtset

kill (it) kill for (him/her)

Note how if the verb ends in a -t then the -elhts ending comes before that -t. This process of inserting the -elhts is quite common, and can be used with most transitive verbs (those that allow receiver endings).
