Saying 'You Did Not' in Halq'eméylem
To say You did not... in Halq'eméylem, you use the pattern shown in (3). Some examples are shown in (4).

Note that you need both the chexw and then the lixw, in sentences following this pattern. Again, when translating sentences like this, translate the éwe here as not.
And again, all the sentences in (4) could equally well be translated in the present tense (You do not...)
Saying 'I Did Not'
To say I did not... in Halq'eméylem, you use the pattern shown in (1). Some examples are shown in (2).

Note that you need both the tsel and then the lil, in sentences following this pattern.
Note also that all of these sentences in (2) could also be translated equally well in the present tense (I do not ...); as with most sentences in Halq'eméylem, context alone is usually enough to figure out if you are talking about the past or present.
When translating sentences like this, it is important to remember to translate the éwe here as not. Even though éwe does also means no, the correct translation for these kinds of sentences is to translate éwe as not.
