Ts'lhám vs. ts'lhámet
Ts'lhám and ts'lhámet both mean to hear. Usually, you will use ts'lhám when a phrase describes what you heard (as in I heard that you left), and you will use ts'lhámet when just a single noun describes what you heard (as in I heard the noise). Examples of the use of each are shown below.
(1) Ts'lhám used where a whole phrase describes what you hear
(a) Tsel ts'lhám kw'as lám.
I heard that you left.
(b) Chexw ts'lhám kw'els lám.
You heard that I left.
(c) Chexw ts'lhám kw'ses lám tútl'ó.
You heard that he left.
(2) Ts'lhám used where just a noun describes what you hear
(a) Tsel ts'lhámet te lópx̲wem.
I heard the noise. (ló:px̲wem = noise)
(b) Chexw ts'lhámet te sqwá:l.
You heard the word. (sqwá:l = word, speech)
(c) Chexw ts'lhámet tútl'ó.
You heard him
