Asking What 'I' did To Something in the Future

As you know, the future in Halq'eméylem is marked by an ending -cha. If you ask about what 'I' will do to something in the future, you get a slightly different pattern for the question from the one you learned in the last lesson. The future pattern is as shown in (1). Some examples are shown in (2).

(1) Pattern for asking 'What will I VERB?'

Stámcha kw'e VERB-al.

What-future that VERB-I = What will I VERB?

(2) (a) Stámcha kw'e lép'exál?

What will I eat?

(b) Stámcha kw'e kwúkwtál?

What will I cook?

Note how the -ál ending again contains the '-l', often asociated with the meaning 'I'. To ask about who I will VERB, you use the same pattern except with tewát:

(3) (a) Tewátcha kw'e tá:metál?

Who will I call?

(b) Tewátcha kw'e kw'étslexwál?

Who will I see?
