To say You were VERBED or You got VERBED in Halq'eméylem, you add an ending -ó:m onto the verb. Here are some examples.
(2) (a) Chexw píwet. You froze it. (b) Píwethó:m. You got frozen.
(c) Chexw máyt. You helped him/her. (d) Máythó:m. You were helped.
(e) Chexw íwest. You taught him/her. (f) Íwesthó:m. You were taught.
Note that if the verb ends in a -t (as in the examples above), then the t also becomes a th before this -ó:m ending.
I was, I got
To say I was VERBED or I got VERBED in Halq'eméylem, you add an ending - álém onto the verb. Here are some examples.
(1) (a) Tsel píwet. I froze it. (b) Píwethálém. I was frozen.
(c) Tsel máyt. I helped him/her. (d) Máythálém. I was helped.
(e) Tsel íwest. I taught him/her. (f) Íwesthálém. I was taught.
Note that if the verb ends in a -t (as in the examples above), then the t becomes a th before this -álém ending.
Saying Who you were VERBED By
You may wish to indicate who it was who you were VERBED by, or who I was VERBED by. In such cases, in Halq'eméylem you simply add the noun after the verb with the -ó:m or -álém endings. There is no (Upriver) Halq'eméylem word for by.
