We use the term "medicine" in the modern sense, but also in the sense of magical or shamanistic power. There is good medicine, bad medicine, love medicine, eye medicine, and many other types. Except for common medicines, recipes were handed down only within families, which was one way to keep from overusing the plants required. Before you pick a plant for medicine you must usually thank it and tell it what you want to use it for.
