We built large shed-roof plank houses which had a frame of posts and beams supporting a single-pitched roof. The walls and roof were heavy planks. The planks used for the walls ran horizontally with slight overlaps, and were held between pairs of poles that were lashed to the eaves. Some of the houses had carvings at the openings to them. The floors were bare earth, and there was a fire at the centre with a hole above to let the smoke out. The houses were divided into apartments with waist-high partitions and had bed-platforms along the walls. These large houses were usually used in winter villages and some seasonal camps. Pithouses were used in winter instead in the Tait (uppermost) Stó:lō villages.

One important item of clothing that our men wore in our traditional life was a blanket made of dog hair and bird down. To keep off rain, the men would wear short cedar-bark cloaks over the blanket. The cloak would have holes for the head and arm, and a tapering hat would finish the outfit. The outfits were sometimes decorated with shells. Other ornaments such as different kinds of shells, shell beads, pipes made of brass, brass wire and horn were used as bracelets, necklaces and other adornments. Hats were made of roots and headbands of cedar bark. They were painted in various colours.
