We would use maggots, which we call á:pel, for medicine. One way we would do this was to dig a hole, about the size of a bucket, and put the guts of a fish (no bones) into the hole. You would leave this until the flies had laid eggs in it, and then children, at ages ranging from toddlers to ten year-olds, would put their hands and their feet in the maggots.
This practice is said to give the children the strength to stand the cold North wind (which we call só:tets), and the coldest parts of the winter.
