Alder (xéyth'elhp) was a very important plant in our traditional culture. After handling and dressing deceased people you would bathe in alder bark. The alder acts as medicine, helping to cleanse your body and probect you and your family. The wood from an alder tree is also especially good for smoking fish, as has been mentioned in an earlier note (Lesson 35).
